Accra – October 11, 2023: The Registrar of the African University College of Communications has said that social media can help the school achieve its presidential charter by 2024 if it is used wisely to realizing the school’s new strategic goals. The sixth of the eight strategic pillars unveiled last month is to “Establish [AUCC as] a center for teaching excellence, online learning and practical education”.

Dr. Juliana Owusu-Ansah said even though social media offered certain challenges, it plays a key role in the 21st century by influencing society and facilitating communication.

The Registrar said these at the launch of the AUCC SRC Akwaaba Week last Monday October 10 to usher in a week of activities to welcome freshers at the school’s Adabraka campus.

Her comments were in line with the school’s new strategic plans which were unveiled on Friday September 16 at the launch of the school’s 20th anniversary celebrations

“Social media influences society by generating visibility around us or around the social, ethical, political and environment views or issues. It spreads educational materials quickly and efficiently and provides organizations and companies with new opportunities. And so, if anyone really wants to move forward, social media can allow them to reach, nurture and engage their target audiences irrespective of the location and time”, she said.

Dr. Owusu-Ansah said the world keeps on changing and brings new innovative ideas faster.

“But as much as these innovations help us to move faster and better, we should not overlook the effects of these prospects. And therefore, we have to use social media wisely and stay up to date with families, friends, our mates, business and the world at large”, she cautioned.
