It Will Take 67 Years to Achieve Gender Equality in The Traditional News Media – Samira Bawumia

Samira Bawumia has said that it will take the country 67 years to achieve gender equality in the traditional news media on average. In order to reach priority in the shortest amount of time, thoughtful, sustainable, and urgent action must be conducted on their continent, where there is a general sense of stagnation.

The Second Lady of Ghana said this Thursday at the official inauguration of this year’s West Africa Media Excellence Conference and Awards (WAMECA). The theme for the conference was “Media & Women Empowerment in Africa”.

She asserted that it is crucial to recognize that media outlets are making a concerted effort to guarantee that women are included, that there is a balance in their programming, and that they are stars of today.

She said news headlines about women are more likely to focus on disasters, domestic violence, and accidents rather than on their professional accomplishments.

“North America media continue to be the best performer globally, according to the global media monitoring repost in 2020. European new media have improved the most in the past five years. Only African media have seen stagnation, while the rest of the media have improved 3 to 12 points across the century” she explained.

She asserted that it is crucial to recognize that media outlets are making a concerted effort to guarantee that women are included, that there is a balance in their programming, and that they are stars of today.
