March 21, 2023. Adabraka, ACCRA: AUCC’s International Students Association (ISA-AUCC) has been reconstituted this week.

Speaking to AfroNovaRadio this morning, the interim president of the association Adiza Mohammed from Guinea said the Association des Etudiants Etrangers de AUCC “brings a sense of belongingness to the foreign students. Many complained that they felt they do not belong fully”.

President Adiza promises that her administration will organize regular programs to improve members’ English efficiency, create a sense of community among foreign students, offer mentorship and support to fellow members, encourage members to be ambassadors of their unique cultures, and represent member countries on campus.

AUCC has 1,549 students currently, 28 of whom are foreign students. The foreign students are principally from la Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Nigeria, Guinea and Equatorial Guinea.

The interim Vice President of ISA-AUCC is Celestine Cheba from Equitorial Guinea. Ms Cheba believes the revived Associason de Estudiantes Internacionales de AUCC will help foreign students “to socialize with one another and help each other”. The majority of non-Ghanaian students at AUCC this moment are from Equatorial Guinea.

According to ISA-AUCC’s interim Secretary Sarah Brou from la Cote d’Ivoire, proposed programs for this semester include weekly English proficiency engagements, readings of at least four books, a weekly radio program on AfroNova to keep students abreast with events, and the association’s signature event to be known as Culture Day. According to Secretary Brou, the event will showcase the best in food, fashion, music, dance, and poetry from member countries.

The formal re-launching of AUCC’s International Students Association is scheduled for Monday April 3, 2023 at 2pm at the Auditorium.
