March 7, 2023. Adabraka, ACCRA: The Pan-African Heritage World Museum (PAHM) celebrated the 66th anniversary of Ghana’s independence alongside Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah yesterday under the theme “Africa is born in us; it is our heritage” at the African University College of Communications.

The packed event, which was attended mostly by the African diaspora and a few locals, was moderated by the founder of PAHM, Hon Kojo Yankah.

Speaking at the occasion, Osagyefo’s daughter Samia Nkrumah reiterated her father’s famous independence statement made in 1957: “Independence is meaningless unless it is linked up with total liberation.” She urged people of African descent to tell our own stories.

Also, members of PAHM around the globe who could not make it to the occasion sent in solidarity messages via Zoom and other social media platforms. Some messages received were from Prof Amina Mama (a council member of PAHM), Dr. Alexander Chisango, Zambia, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Dr. Patricia Rodney (Walter Rodney Foundation, USA), Joramu Nkumbi, Tanzania, Imruh Bakari, UK, and many more.

Dignitaries in attendance included Prof Michael Williams (Chair of Heroes/Heroines Committee), Prof Pashington Obeng, CEO, PAHM, representatives from the Mosiah Marcus Garvey Foundation, and more.

The insightful occasion, indeed, ignited the African spirit in all who attended.

The PAHWM is located at Pomadze Hills, 60km away west of Accra. The main building is built in the shape of a horn, a symbol of many African civilizations. It will house the six-storey galleries of collections and artefacts. It will be surrounded by the one hectare large Pan African Heroes Park, the Palace of African Kingdoms which explains ancient and modern states. There will be a Herbal Plant Village with various pavilions where lectures about Africa’s herbal plants will be held. While the museum is set to be completed soon, a digital Pan African Heritage Museum (PAHM), the first in the world, was launched in May 2022. It provides the public with a first virtual experience of what will physically come when the project is completed. Visitors can stroll around the galleries to the sound of African music at www.pahmuseum.org.
