A pharmacy assistant has been fined 600 GHC for throwing boiling water on a local caterer, causing significant injuries. Millicent Applah, during an altercation over a failure to respond to a question, threw scalding water on Victoria Sevor’s back.

The shocking incident occurred on October 1, 2023 in Dome Pillar Two, Accra, involving the two ladies, one of whom shared a compound residence with their mutual friend, Alice Dogboe.

According to police reports, the conflict started when Victoria, while in her friend Alice’s room, heard unidentified footsteps within the house, prompting her to question who was there. When there was no response, she went outside the room into the compound where she encountered Millicent and her boyfriend entering their own quarters.

Seeing the couple, Victoria demanded:

“Why? Were you not taught to respond when someone asks ‘who is there’?”

This question sparked a heated exchange between the parties, leading to a decision by Millicent and her boyfriend to report the visitor’s conduct to their co-tenant Alice Dogboe.

The ensuing exchange of words between Victoria and Millicent escalated into a heated argument, with the situation deteriorating rapidly leading to a confrontation marked by mutual arguments and insults.

In the midst of the struggle, Millicent, in an impulsive act, grabbed a kettle of hot water from behind her and threw it onto Victoria’s back.

Following the distressing incident, Victoria was rushed to the hospital, where she received medical treatment for the extensive burns sustained during the altercation. Subsequently, on October 3, 2023, Victoria filed a formal complaint, leading to the arrest of Millicent and an investigative process that highlighted disturbances of public peace from both sides.

The legal proceedings took place in the Kwabenya Circuit Court under the jurisdiction of Her Worship Mawusi Bedzra. Inspector Theodora Akanwarisagi served as the prosecutor, presenting the facts of the case before the court.

While the burn victim Victoria admitted guilt to her charge of Causing Harm and Offensive Conduct, Millicent pleaded not guilty, leading to the court’s decision.

In the verdict, the aggressor Millicent was fined an amount of 600.00, with a provision for a three-month prison sentence in default of payment.

Meanwhile, Victoria was granted bail and scheduled to appear in court for her charge of disrupting public peace. The next court appearance for Millicent is scheduled for November 7, 2023, allowing the prosecution to establish charges against her.
