Music producer Rab Bakari has reportedly died this Independence Sunday morning at Busua beach. The DJ and entrepreneur was attending Asa Baako festival which he helped to birth. Rab’s death went viral when Hip-life Godfather Reggie Rockstone broke the news on social media.

Earlier Sunday morning, the New York-born DJ had posted a picture of himself underneath a coconut tree with a sign “The Beach” on it.

Bakari was the Kool Herc to Rockstone’s Hip-Life odyssey and thus a significant cog in the wheels that brought home what is now modern Ghanaian popular music.

Bakari would also be remembered for his involvement in lifting urban West African music to industry standards as per his contribution to Okay Africa and Africology, Social Media Week (Nigeria), Cariforum EU Business Forum (Jamaica), Kenya Music Week, Ghana DJ Awards and AFRIMA (Nigeria).

Lately, he had intensified his promotion of Ghanaian places and spaces on social media.

Last March, 2021, he visited the Ama Ata Aidoo Centre for Creative Writing at AUCC where he met with ad shared thoughts with students.
