Sheba Akulgopoka, a 29-year old security guard at the Adabraka campus of the African University College of Communications, was among o0ver 600 students who matriculated during the school’s 19th Matriculation ceremony held last Friday, ’
Now in Level 200, Sheba decided to go back to school after working for two years at the private university.
She completed Kpandai Senior High School in 2019 in the Northern region and has since been working as AUCC’s first and only female security guard.
“Because I didn’t have anyone to help me with my fees and further my education, I had to step out, work and organize myself to be able to enter the classroom again.” she said.
The guard who hopes to become a chartered accountant some day couples her education with her daily routine work as a guard on campus to make ends meet. She therefore opted for the afternoon session of the lecture schedules.
A colleague guard said of Sheba: “We’re very proud of her.”
