Coach Karim Zito says repeating the Dreams FC fairytale story in the CAF Confederations Cup requires some factors, including unity and player discipline.

In April 2024, Zito led Dreams FC to a historic feat becoming the first Ghanaian club to advance to the knockout stages of the competition in two decades.

They also became the only Ghanaian side to have recorded two away wins in the knockout stage of CAF competitions in 20 years.

The Porcupine Warriors are bidding for their first appearance in the CAF Confederations Cup knockout round since 2004 when they lost the final to archrivals Hearts of Oak.

Zito who is now in charge of Asante Kotoko have a slim lead after the first leg 4-3 win over Nigerian side Kwara United in the preliminary round last Sunday.

Zito’s side will travel to Ilorin for the return fixture on Sunday. Progress for the Porcupines would set up a second preliminary round clash with Moroccan heavyweights Wydad Casablanca.

Speaking to Luv FM, Karim Zito said “there were some factors that helped dreams FC, and I hope that factors will soon help. We were all on board. Everybody was giving their best. Players were disciplined, were united, from the board down to the ball boy.

“I’m trying to bring that factor here, everything that achieves will tell you at the end of the day, we’re united. We have to unite, and then listen to instructions. We do what we’re supposed to do, and then we’ll do the best. It will be okay.”
