May 24, 2022: ACCRA. A survey at African University College of communication ( AUCC) has shown that most students prefer to wear slippers to school instead of full shoes or sandals. Thirty-five students randomly chosen from Levels 100 to 400 indicated that they feel more comfortable in slippers than in shoes.

A survey of 50 students was conducted at Discovery House on April 29, 2022 involving 25 female and 25 females. 19 females and 16 males said they “like wearing slippers”.

“I wear slippers to school because I have discomfort in my feet anytime I wear slippers or shoes,” Faustina, a level 300 journalism student explained. “I used to wear shoes and sandals to school, but they caused me pain and my leg swelled up, so I stopped wearing them to avoid the pains”.

An AUCC administrative staff  said she believed shoes were the more formal choice for a tertiary institution, but she sees nothing wrong with wearing slippers if the school code does not prohibit it.

Some students stated that it is now a trend, so they are following it because they see nothing wrong with it. Laurentia, a Level 200 student, said she prefers slippers to shoes or sandals. She added that she owns more slippers than shoes.

Agnes, Level 100, stated that most of her friends wear slippers, so she decided to wear them too so she wouldn’t be the odd one out. She also stated that because it is a university, there is no dress code per se, and no one forces anyone to wear shoes or sandals.

According to students, there are more attractive and fashionable slippers on the market, and so they wear slippers to look “nice”.

Nathan, a Level 400 Journalism student stated that, the choice of whether to wear slippers depends on the student’s dress code. “Some dresses do not go with shoes or sandals, but rather slippers, so wearing slippers to school is not a bad idea. It has to do with the image the wearer is trying to portray.”

  1. Slippers and shoes are all good to wear, but sometimes it may depend on the type of dress you wear.
